About the Artist

Dan's photographic journey began in 1981, while teaching in the San Juan Islands. The vistas and solitude there awakened a desire to record natural beauty.

Moving to Portland in '82, his first darkroom was in his apartment and his reading was Ansel Adams's "The Negative". He fixated on the work of Weston, Cartier-Bresson and Kertesz. His efforts led to a job printing at a commercial studio in '84, access to quality equipment and an income to support his work.  1986 saw him showing his prints in local restaurants and for several years hardly a month passed that didn't find his work in the public eye.  In '95, he married, then completed a counseling degree and turned his energy to building a private practice and enjoying family life. 2004 saw his return to photography with renewed passion and energy.

Dan works in primarily in black and white making abstracts, landscapes, and street photographs.
