About the Artist

Abi Spring grew up in rural Vermont, where she began her studies as an artist with her artist mother, painting and visiting museums around the northeast. She continued these studies at the Maine College of Art where she received a BFA in painting and at the Australian National University where she received her Masters Degree in Glass. Currently a resident of Portland, Oregon, she has also lived and shown in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She has been recipient of numerous awards including a grant for travel to the Czech Republic to study glass casting, a 2011 Emerging Artist in Residence at Pilchuck Glass School, a residency at the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, Oregon, and a Ford Foundation residency. Her work was selected for the New Glass Review in 2014. She has had several solo exhibitions.

Influenced by natural events like erosion, decay, ripples on water, and drifting, she explores how work made via repetitive processes in glass, paint, and natural material installations, can be imbued with the meditative state required of the artist to make it.
